A little story about the Eurobike 2008!
After 4 years in a row…it has some kind of tradition that we are doing shows on Europeans biggest bicycle trade show for Felt or Sport Import from Thursday to Sunday.
It is not only doing the shows, it is playing good music for the spectators, riding our bikes most of the time better than in every contest, the host, the people, hanging around with good friends and go to party at night.
After doing some kind of flatland demo marathon the days before, myself and Matti Rose drove together with our Dj from Berlin to Lauterbach which is in central Germany, to meet our “chill out crew”.
Because of the fact that all hotels are already booked for the next ten years during the time of that trade show, we were always put in kind of holiday flats around the area on the country side. Not this year. We were put in the trailer park right behind the tradeshow. We were scared by the thought about living close together with ten smelling guys. But it was not bad at all. We had a great time spending the evenings together in our brand new king size trailer.
No rush hour in the morning, just waking up, going to the shower, having a little breakfast and walking to our booth.
The Thursday passed by really fast and the Eurobike all stars Seppl, Michael Sommer, Matti and me were really tired in the evening cause of our days before.
In the evening we all just went to dinner in the Hotel “7 Schwaben” which is kind of the same tradition like the shows itself.
A new show rider for this weekend joined us on Friday. Waldemar showed up and proofed that he doesn’t need a Burgerking to bust out whoppers.
Michael did endless links with g turn stuff, switches, pumping tricks and spins.
He also learned a lot on his back wheel which was really impressive when he showed that stuff during the shows.
Matti is flowing over the surface like always and is showing the spectators the nicest pinky squeaks on this planet. Seppl showed his classic show stuff ;) Crossfooted, crosshanded rolling combos with hard pedal tricks on both sides forwards and backwards. Crazy shit! And I just asked myself if there will ever be a contest run where I am relaxed like that and can pull my stuff easy like during the shows. It is all in our head! Can you imagine what was going on there? Probably not…
It was not only the four shows during the day behind our fence which gave us sometimes the impression of hanging around in a zoo. No, everybody who wanted to spin the wheels of steel did it whenever he wanted to, and another one took his bike and did a few tricks.
This spontaneous runs ended most of the time in a big sweating session like on Friday noon or Saturday night.
The last show on Saturday night was not visited that good and we thought ok, we just do the standard program and that’s it. But people started coming to our show constantly and after it started to rain, people ran under our roof to watch the show. So this little demo ended up in a big two hour session till dark with good sounds and good vibrations in the crowd. It was great…
Daily routine in the evening! So we ended up in the hotel to eat and drink. The newest cocktail variation was invented this evening. Latest creation by Waldemar was the gin vodka which is nothing for soft people. Just give it a try, make it soft and mix it 50/50…
There are not too many options if you want to do something at night in Friedrichshafen. So most of the time you end up in a club named Metro, listening for the tenth time to bloodhound gang where little mountain bike kids are pissing you off constantly.
All I can say: Don’t touch our DJ and don’t fuck around with Lagy…
Two funny evenings though. I think everyone had a good time during the days. Lots of bike riding, not too much sleep. Tiring combination. But now we have a little break.
Once again we proofed that you don’t need too much to proof the spectator that Flatland is exciting and a great thing to spread good vibes. A few riders, a DJ, some good music and our host, who did a great job too.
See you next year where we will be in front of hall A3 hopefully again
